Harmeneutics

01 - HEAVEN'S SAKE

this one is about taking my ex girlfriend to one of the hospitality nights at heaven in 2008. soon afterwards we split up, as it became clear i wasn't going to return to regular city employment and was going to pursue a music project that she wanted nothing to do with.

02 - NO MATTER WHAT

a rave tune. nothing more. just a tune that describes me being dragged back in - unwillingly at first - to the unspeakable joys of british rave culture.

03 - PRINTER JAM

me taking the piss out of super-serious office life and the flimsy culture of ultra-functionality it's built on.

04 - LEAN

just a wonky memory of smoking in the park during the occaisionaly sunny summer of 2008

05 - VIEW FROM NOWHERE

a song about falling in love on ecstacy.

06 - WHITE COLLAR GRIME

another cynical stab at the backstabbing buck-passing blame culture of a financial house's front office. bullpoop management speak, fart noises, synthetic dog-barks, a lyrical description of trader paranoia (Triarch was an unreliable information platform), the thrill of success, the terror of failiure, finishing up with a sampled segment from our training video describing the dangers of over-selling/buying credit insurence products

07 - DAMAGE

possibly about a 20th century rock star strangle-barclaysing himself to death in his girlfriend's hotel room. (i read his biography last year!)

08 - GREED

unironically obvious homage to Gecko's philosophy. the riff is greedily stolen from the score of Eric Satie's Gymnopedie... (a Gymnopedie being a dancefloor).

09 - WIPE YOUR TEARS

a recording of a west-indian alcoholic, found singing in a carribean cafe in west-london, during the summer of 2008

10 - THE LIGHT'S REALL BAD

a song for driving back from a party late at night and under the influence of emotionally influential stimuli.

11 - FROM MEMORY

a song about wanting to return to a time where the only thing i wanted to do was play in the sun with my mates.

CD bonus 12 - HIDDEN

feild recordings from my daily commute in early 2008 backed with rave-influenced audio

that was the weekend that was

played three events in a row. thursday: southampton, friday: london, saturday: oxford.

now it's Sunday Morning. (i love that song).
until a few minutes ago, my nikes were really not in a particularly good state.

as a model citizen, and not wanting to expose my fellow train travelers on my return journey to what had become two live dirty-bombs laced to my feet, i bought a bottle of vladivar from the bar, poured the contents into both shoes, let it stew for about 10 minutes whilst i showered, then dried them out with a hair dryer.

i must say, they now smell like a new car.
the vodka completely sterilized the bio-hazardous horror of my nikes and left them soviet fresh.

and so to the train station.

Tax return...

looks like i have to go thru my amazon rainforest's-worth of receipts to get the VAT figure because it seems as if i am now, technically, self employed; an independent contractor. lol at this receipt tho from a 24hr garage:

Snickers - 50p
Walkers Sensations Th.Sw.Ch. - 50p
Mars Milk - 80p
Maltesers - 50p
Monster Munch Pi.On. 40p
Walkers Sa.Vi. - 40p
What Car? Magazine - £3.99p
Sandwich BLT - £2.89
Cherry Coke Can - 55p
Marlboro Lights 20pk - £5.10
Innocent Smoothie - £2.50

what a mess.

i'm a bit non-plussed at having to pay tax tbh... seeing as most of it will go to an organisation that will try to lend it back to me at a profit in about 4 years time... but then again i did work for one of them. ugh. morality. what a sexy beast.

oh. i'm not allowed to swear on here ...

dang... good honest Anglo Saxon words too. ancient words. well this is gonna be tricky... you want me to to post things about music and investment strategies at the same time... without swearing? well i'll try...

Iron Butterfly.

Quality 60's psy-rock outfit, with one tune that completely smacked it. (Inna Gadda Da Vida).

also the name of a really sick spread-trade where you hold four options: low strike put, mid strike put, mid strike call, and high strike call. pretty much a neutral position.

phew. didn't say f.uck once.

mmmm... marketingy

it vex me to see myself associated with the 21st century's first greatest mistake. especially when it's aligned to the one remaining thing i do that i get some kind of *innocent* enjoyment out of. (even if some of the tracks have unauthorised soundfiles and lyrics about abusively fetishistic relationships in them).
